The most fun holiday of "raging tomatoes" - La Tomatina

Every year, the small Spanish town of Bunyol becomes the epicenter of tomato fights, bright and fiery. This festival has already reached the status of "international", and the tradition of holding it dates back to 1945. It takes place in honor of the patron saint of St. Louis Bertrand.

At the end of August, the city is filled with tourists, their number is sometimes five times higher than the local population. And all in order to shower each other with tomatoes.

On the morning of the holiday, trucks with ripe tomatoes arrive at the city. They are taken to the central square.

Fights begin at ten in the morning.

The cannon fire sounds and the battle begins.

The rules are strict - no items other than tomatoes, and everyone must be crushed to make it safe.

The battle lasts exactly one hour. Then a conditional signal sounds, after which it is no longer possible to throw vegetables.

In the course of the holiday, all new batches of tomatoes are brought up.

So after these tomato fights, the walls of the houses are completely red, the faces of people are absolutely happy, and the tomato slurry sometimes reaches the ankles.

The cleaning process is very exciting.
