Many countries develop tourism, make every effort to attract as many travelers as possible, and this seems natural, because vacationers bring significant income. But there are countries with a diametrically opposite policy, with all their might striving to stop the flow of visitors. They perceive tourists as a natural disaster that destroys the ecology and lifestyle of the local population.

Barcelona, Spain

The flow of tourists in Barcelona is huge. In 2015, upon assuming the post of mayor, Ad Kolau promised to reduce the flow of visitors so that the city "does not turn into a cheap souvenir shop." As an argument, she cited a negative example of Venice.

As a result, the licenses of tearing away hotels were frozen, at the moment the introduction of a new tourist tax is being considered.

Venice, Italy

The authorities of Venice are also concerned about the decline in the influx of tourists, because they cause significant harm to both the environment and the tranquility of the local population. The influx of tourists here is eight times the number of local people. "Cities are dying from tourism," said Frans van der Avert, head of the Amsterdam Marketing agency. "Small historic cities are simply destroyed by visitors."

He noted that he was completely curtailing Amsterdam's ads, not wanting to attract new tourists. He believes that in this way he will discourage idle party-goers, and the remaining visitors will be more interested in the cultural side of the city.
