China that tourists do not see

Where tourist routes end, life begins. The easiest way to look for her is on the outskirts. The center is often too glossy and neat, like a beautiful frame from a postcard. Behind architectural monuments, the smells of cafes and bakeries, shouting, you sometimes do not notice the most important thing. People.

Pulling out a genuine fragment of someone's life is a success for any photojournalist. When an aborigine sees a tourist’s camera pointing at him, he changes in his face. As if this is not a camera, but an RPG. He thinks: "What the hell is this white guy planning? What does he need?" You need to shoot secretly, in the style of the paparazzi. As soon as you meet the object of attention with your eyes, the chemistry of the moment is lost forever.

On the way from the Chinese port city of Ningbo to Shanghai, I had a lucky chance. The back row of our bus was empty. I took all the seats, uncovered the telephoto, opened the window and began to take pictures of life.

Decrepit huts at the very edge of a dirty river. The owners of the ruins, perhaps, wash clothes in it, wash themselves and even drink from this puddle.

Scooters are the most popular Asian mode of transport. Families ride them: three, four, five people each. And sometimes they manage to transport not only kids, but also televisions. A Russian traffic cop would choke on a whistle if he saw such a bacchanalia on the road :-)

The strawberry seller carefully puts the goods in baskets. The girl’s tracksuit is matched exactly to the color of the berries.

Houses with a gable roof of gray tiles. The landscape resembles Russian villages before the cleanup.

Sports Chinese grandmother. Our Russians are no worse!

Well, why, where is the iron, are there always serious guys? :-)

How can one live in such a chaos of things?

Grandmother with a cute bear in a checkered dress takes out the trash.

Typical Asia. Scuffed walls, linen on the balcony and scooters parked at the houses.

Every day, 5.5 million Ningbo residents go to seek their happiness.

Glamorous Chinese woman on a glamorous pink bike. A la Chinese pathos.

In 1979, the Communist Party introduced the rule: "One family - one child."

They had nowhere to go. In just a few decades, the country's population has doubled. And there is an unwritten law: if a river begins to overflow, it must be stopped, or it will flood everything around. Compliance with the rule was monitored strictly. The extra child was punished with ten annual salaries.

Recently, the restriction has been partially lifted. From now on, the Chinese can have two children.

The average salaries of Ningbo residents are at the level of 45 thousand rubles. The Shanghaiers earn one and a half times more, although they live only 144 kilometers from the port city.

It’s great, probably, to knit like this and not to rush anywhere?

A convenient and creative way to get to work in the warmth.
