Frightening black and white photographs of London drowning in fog in the early 20th century
Great Britain is not just called the "Misty Albion", and the point here is not only in the unique climatic conditions that provide almost permanent high humidity on the island. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the capital of Great Britain, beautiful London, has literally been buried in fogs. This sad and frightening sight was more of a man-made origin than a meteorological one. We already wrote about him here. The culmination of that dark period in the history of the city was the Great Smog in 1952. Four years later, the British government passed a crucial law on clean air, by which time it had claimed the lives of twelve thousand citizens. We present to your attention a unique collection of old photographs of London and other English cities in the unfortunate "fog", made in the period from 1910 to the 1950s.
