Tambomachai - a unique Inca water system that still works

The Incas, who created a huge empire in South America, left behind many religious and engineering structures that still amaze contemporaries. One of these is the temple complex in Tambomachai, most likely associated with the cult of water and ritual ablutions.

This ancient monument is located in Peru, near the city of Cuzco - the former capital of the Inca Empire. From the Quechua language, the name Tambombachai is translated as "a place of rest", so historians believe that this place was used by the rulers and nobles as a resort area, where they came to perform rituals and rest. It is believed that Tambomachai was built around 1,500 years, that is, shortly before the fall of the empire at the hands of the Spanish colonialists.

Nowadays, Tambombachai is a popular attraction, which is often visited by tourists coming to the city of Cuzco. The famous Puka Pukara and Sacsayhuaman fortresses are also located in the same region.
