Amazing Japanese engravings owned and inspired by Vincent Van Gogh

This guru of post-impressionism became acquainted with Japanese art after moving to Paris in 1886. He was especially interested in ukiyo-e - engravings created on wood in the 17th-19th centuries. The art of ukiyo-e was entirely devoted to the beauty and harmony of the world. Through the prism of beauty, sumo wrestlers, kabuki actors, landscapes, characters of folk legends, sex scenes and more were depicted. The Dutch painter was very impressed by these elegant pictures.

In Antwerp, Van Gogh acquired his first box of prints and decorated the walls of his workshop with them. That was just the beginning. Subsequently, the Dutchman became the owner of an enviable collection of examples of Japanese fine art, which today we have the good fortune to consider.
