The secret of moai statues on Easter Island is revealed: scientists have found out why they were created

Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean is famous for its many stone heads - moai. In total, over 900 bizarre statues were discovered here. For a long time, the idols remained a real mystery to scientists, but now researchers have finally been able to understand the purpose for which they were created.

It is believed that the Moai made local aborigines somewhere between 1250 and 1500. The size of the statues is on average Z-5 meters, and their weight reaches 5 tons. Most of them are carved from volcanic rocks, but they were made in different parts of the island, after which they were transported to the right place. It is difficult to imagine how difficult it is to carve a monument of this size, but what is even more amazing is how and why the stone giants were transported.

Initially, people believed that the giants consist only of heads, and not so long ago, scientists found out that they also have a body, it just hides underground. And recently, an anthropologist Karl Lipo made a very important assumption regarding the reasons for the creation of moai.
