Miracle Batagaya: the most northern solar station in the world operates in the polar village

Batagay village is located in the north of Yakutia, on the right bank of the Yana River. It owes its origin to the discovery and exploitation of large deposits of tin, which were discovered here in the 30s of the XX century. In its heyday, mines, mines and an enrichment factory functioned here, and in the late 1980s more than 8,000 people lived here, which is quite a lot by polar standards. Since the 90s, the population began to decline, in addition, the village was badly damaged after the floods in 2004-2005.

But not so long ago, in 2015, a significant event took place in the village of Batagay, in which just over 3,600 people live today. Here the first phase of the solar power station was commissioned, which is the largest of such structures built beyond the Arctic Circle.

The capacity of the first stage of the Batagai SES is 1 MW, and after the second unit is commissioned, it will be 4 MW. More than 3,000 solar modules are installed here, and the area they occupy is almost 4 hectares. Thanks to the construction of this unique in every sense of the object, it is possible to save up to 300 tons of diesel fuel annually.
